THE ADULT INDUSTRY GUIDE

Know what to ask.
See what you’re getting.

Start with a direct description of your business. Compare providers on the models they accept, the conditions they set and the payment experience they can actually support.

What your business does

Distinguish content, subscriptions, platforms, services or physical products so providers can respond to the right model.

Acceptance requirements

Ask for the provider’s age, identity, content and consent requirements, plus any exclusions that apply to your business.

Payments and integration

Confirm recurring billing, supported markets, payout terms and the gateway or platform connection being proposed.

Define the model behind the label.

The adult industry includes different products, services and platforms. Explain the model you operate so the response addresses your business. Ask the provider to identify accepted activities and exclusions in the offer, rather than relying on the category name alone.

  • Distinguish digital content, subscriptions, platforms, services and physical products.
  • Explain whether you sell directly or operate a platform involving other sellers or creators.
  • State the company registration country and the customer markets you want covered.

Get acceptance conditions in writing.

Ask the provider to set out the age, identity, consent and content requirements it applies to your particular model. Where another party makes part of the approval decision, ask who that is and what remains outstanding. Keep the response attached to the proposal.

  • Request a specific list of excluded activities, content categories or markets.
  • Clarify which website pages, controls and customer journeys the provider wants to review.
  • Ask how it handles new products, content changes or changes to the way your platform operates.

Compare the customer experience and the money.

Pricing is only useful when it refers to the payment journey you intend to offer. Explain one-off purchases, subscriptions or other repeat billing, and ask which are included. If your model involves onward payouts, request a separate answer about whether and how those are supported.

  • Confirm supported payment methods, currencies, billing descriptions and recurring payment options.
  • Separate processing fees, reserve holds, settlement timing and payout charges.
  • Ask about refunds, disputes, account limits, interruptions and the proposed contracting entity.

Keep application and setup private and clear.

Use a named application workspace for the agreed next steps. Share business materials only with the intended recipient, clarify the remaining review tasks and ask for a practical implementation handoff. A price quote and a completed approval are separate milestones.

  • Confirm the requested documents and who can review them. Agree how additional information will be requested.
  • Ask for the gateway or platform, connection method, recurring billing setup and support contact.
  • Agree the testing steps and the party responsible for confirming readiness before live use.

What one card network asks providers to certify.

In April 2021 Mastercard extended its Specialty Merchant Registration requirements for sellers of adult content. These are among the conditions a provider may ask you to show before it can quote.

  • The banks that connect adult content sellers to Mastercard’s network must certify that the seller has effective controls to monitor, block and, where necessary, take down all illegal content.
  • Documented age and identity verification for all people depicted and for those uploading the content.
  • A content review process before publication.
  • A complaint resolution process that addresses illegal or nonconsensual content within seven business days.
  • An appeals process that allows any person depicted to request that their content be removed.

Questions before you start.

Does an Adult industry listing cover every business model?

No. Ask for confirmation of the model, activities and markets included in the provider’s offer. A broad listing is only a starting point.

Should a platform describe payments to creators separately?

Yes. If onward payouts are part of the model, explain that flow and ask whether it is included, who provides it and what separate terms apply.

How should I compare recurring billing support?

Ask about the subscription journey you use, supported payment methods, billing descriptions, cancellations and failed renewals. Compare the written answers alongside the commercial terms.

Will Zolution certify the provider or approve my business?

No. Zolution is an independent marketplace and application workspace. Providers handle their own services and approval decisions.
